Lloyd Gosselink’s Law Clerk Spring Program

Lloyd Gosselink is pleased to announce the five distinguished law students selected to take part in our Spring 2021 Law Clerk Program!

This semester, in addition to veteran law clerk, Katie Jeffress, we are excited to welcome first-time law clerks Richard Arnett, Justin Cias, Madison Huerta, and Matthew Streety.  Lloyd Gosselink takes pride in its long-standing and robust Law Clerk Program, and we look forward to continuing our tradition of providing outstanding law students with the opportunity to gain experience working with both principals and associates in all of the Firm’s diverse areas of practice.

• Madison Huerta is a second-year student at the SMU Dedman School of Law, where she competes with an off-campus mock trial team and works as a student associate in the SMU legal clinic for victims of crimes against women. During her first summer in law school, Madison clerked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, where she observed the complexities involved in complying with federal laws and regulations. Before law school, Madison worked at the Texas Capitol as a legislative aide and director for two State Representatives. This experience developed her passion for the Texas government and helping others navigate its complexities.

• Originally from Texas, Richard Arnett moved to Colorado to complete his bachelor’s degree and is currently a student at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. His work has been published in the University of Denver Water Law Review and Sustainable Development Strategies Group. A lover of the great outdoors, Richard worked as a Geologist prior to pursuing a legal career, but has since gained experience in the legal field, focusing on oil and gas as well as other environmental law interest areas, such as water policy.   

• Justin Cias is a student at Texas A&M University School of Law, and received first place in the Legal Writing Professor’s “Citation Cup” Competition. During his time in law school, Justin has assisted in researching state regulations and policies for groundwater use, as well as contributed to a judicial opinion on a motion for summary judgment.  Always a competitive and dedicated student, Justin previously worked as a supplemental instruction leader at his alma mater, the University of Texas at San Antonio.

• Matthew Streety is a student at the University of Texas School of Law with experience working at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Office of the Attorney General. Most recently, during the summer of 2020, he researched and analyzed potential fraud claims under the Interstate Land Sales Act and a misappropriation of trade secrets claim against a natural gas company. Matthew has also worked internationally, teaching students in Denmark while learning Danish along the way.

• Katie Jeffress, our returning law clerk, is a third-year law student at the University of Texas School of Law. Her experience includes two internships with the TCEQ, as well as private-sector regulatory work related to air, water, and waste issues. Prior to law school, she worked for a non-profit in Mexico, where she organized environmental education programs.
